Weekly Update 4/24/20

Wilshire/Rodeo Station

City Council approves temporary full closure of Wilshire.

With reduced traffic throughout the City due to the COVID-19 emergency, the City Council approved an accelerated construction schedule and temporary full closure of Wilshire between Crescent and El Camino, as well as Beverly at Wilshire. This specially authorized work may continue until the City's local emergency is cancelled or within five days of notice from the City Manager or designee. The closure will be in place 24 hours a day and work hours within the closure will be from 8 am to 11 pm every day.

During the closure, signage and traffic control officers will direct drivers to Santa Monica (see map below). Soft closures will be in place along Wilshire to allow for local access.

Metro buses on Wilshire will also be rerouted. Metro lines 20 and 720 will be rerouted to Robertson, Burton, and N Santa Monica (Detour Map for Metro Lines 20 and 720). Metro line 14 will be rerouted to Olympic and Doheny (Detour Map for Metro Line 14). Additional service advisories can be found on Metro's website.

The bus detour routes are near several Beverly Hills Bike Share stations. Through April 30, 2020, new and existing Beverly Hills Bike Share members can ride free 90 minutes per trip with an unlimited number of trips per day. The out-of-hub and out-of-system area fees still apply. To sign-up for the program and view bike share station locations, please visit Contact (323) 302-8130 for questions about the program.

Piling installation on Wilshire underway.

Pile installation on the north side of Wilshire is nearly complete. The remaining piles on the south side of Wilshire are expected to be installed over the next several weeks during the temporary full closure of Wilshire between Crescent and Beverly. While Wilshire is closed 24 hours a day, work hours are daily from 8 am to 9 pm, with non-drilling activities from 9 pm to 11 pm. For more details, please see Metro’s latest construction notice.

Geotechnical instrumentation being installed in Beverly Hills.

Geotechnical instruments are being installed within the station box and along the tunnel alignment to monitor ground movement, settlement, and other geological conditions. Upcoming areas include Wilshire, Young, Lasky, Charleville, Spalding, and Moreno. This work will include intermittent closures of traffic lanes, sidewalks, crosswalks, and parking meters. Work hours will be weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm, though installations on S. Moreno may need to be completed on weekends from 8 am to 7 pm.

Wilshire/La Cienega Station

Closures anticipated near Wilshire.

The following closures* are scheduled to take place during the upcoming week:

  • North Gale will be closed from 5 am to 6 pm on weekdays and Saturday.
  • The parking lane on westbound Wilshire will be closed from Tower to Hamilton from 4 am to 4 pm on weekdays and Saturdays.

Please use alternative routes and continue to respect construction barriers and detours for your safety.
